Modern Slavery Statement

Man and Van Deptford Modern Slavery Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Man and Van Deptford has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our business.

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It can take various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of which involve the deprivation of a person’s liberty for personal or commercial gain. Man and Van Deptford adopts a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery.

Our Zero-Tolerance Policy

We are fully committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our operations. This zero-tolerance stance applies to all individuals working for us or on our behalf in any capacity, including employees at all levels, agency workers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and business partners.

All managers are responsible for ensuring their teams understand and comply with our approach. Any breach of this policy by an employee may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Any breach by a supplier or contractor may result in the termination of our relationship with that organisation.

Our Supply Chains and Supplier Due Diligence

Our services rely on a range of suppliers, including vehicle providers, equipment suppliers, recruitment agencies, and facilities and maintenance contractors. We recognise that the risk of modern slavery can exist at different levels of these supply chains.

We undertake due diligence on new suppliers before allowing them to become a preferred supplier. This due diligence includes assessing their policies and practices relating to labour standards, right to work checks, and workplace health and safety. We expect all suppliers to uphold labour practices that are fair, transparent, and compliant with relevant laws.

Supplier Audits and Ongoing Monitoring

To support our zero-tolerance approach, we carry out proportionate audits of key suppliers and higher-risk categories. These audits may include requesting evidence of right to work checks, reviewing contracts and pay records, and assessing the use of subcontractors and agency labour.

Where potential issues are identified, we engage with the supplier to seek clarification and corrective action. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to address concerns in a timely manner, we reserve the right to reduce, suspend, or terminate our relationship with that supplier.

Reporting Channels and Speaking Up

We encourage a culture of openness and support anyone who raises genuine concerns about modern slavery in our business or supply chains. Concerns can be raised with line managers or a senior member of the management team. Reports can be made confidentially, and we do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against any person who raises concerns in good faith.

All reports are treated seriously and investigated promptly. Where appropriate, we will involve external authorities and cooperate fully with any official investigations. Our aim is always to protect individuals at risk and to remediate any issues identified.

Training and Awareness

We provide information to relevant employees so they understand what modern slavery is, how to recognise warning signs, and how to report concerns. This includes inductions for new starters in higher-risk roles and refresher guidance for managers who procure goods and services or manage third-party labour.

Annual Review and Continuous Improvement

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least once every year by the management team at Man and Van Deptford. As part of the annual review, we assess the effectiveness of our actions, consider any incidents or reports, and identify opportunities to strengthen our controls, audits, and training.

We are committed to continuous improvement in this area and to working collaboratively with employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders to help eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking from our operations and the wider logistics and removals sector.

This statement has been approved by the management of Man and Van Deptford and will be updated annually to reflect our evolving approach and ongoing commitments.
